Hi! I'm Eric (or Erinç). By any normal measure, I had made it. Then I walked away. A senior role leading AI engineering teams at Amazon and an easy life in sunny San Diego, California. In 2024 I chose freedom instead. I sold everything, moved to Asia with one bag, and have not looked back.
I co-own Women Travel Tribe, a tour company that takes women aged 50 and over on small group trips around the world. Over 15,000 members and more than 30 trips a year.
Two home bases: Bangkok 🇹🇭 and Istanbul 🇹🇷. I split my year between them. Both are world class hubs, which puts most of Asia and Europe a few hours away.
Amazon, over eight years. Senior Product and Engineering Manager. I led the large scale AI platforms that power multiple AWS services.
Startups before that. I led engineering teams at Canadian companies including Hootsuite.
Computer Science and Economics degree from the University of Victoria, Canada.
A minimalist since 2012. I first sold everything that year and have kept life light ever since. Today it all fits in one bag I can carry in one hand.
Hobbies. Padel, long walks, camping, ultralight backpacking, healthy living, and personal knowledge management.
An expat my whole adult life. My 20s in Canada, my 30s across the US, Germany, and South America. I stopped counting countries a long time ago.
No LinkedIn. I deleted my account as the ultimate fuck you to the corporate world.
